I know I haven't updated in a really long time. In fact you could say that you only hear from me every semester or so, well hopefully that will change over the summer. Anyway now that I have finished this semester, well almost finished the semester, I can update most of you on my very hectic life.
Yes my friends the semester officially ends for me when I hand in my prospectus for my thesis. *Sigh of relief* Thank god I finished that yesterday. So all I have to do is e-mail it to my professor and then that it. Trig survived (barely) her first year as a Public History Grad student. Let me tell you there were some really interesting highs and lows. Anyway I will also be finishing up my internship at the Indiana Historical Society on May 31st and them starting my new internship on June 1st. Talk about no time off to relax, oh well. At least I'll be working full time over the summer.
My next couple of weeks are going to be crazy. I have Acen this upcoming weekend, and I have to get my apartment ready to leave, and also finish up this sewing project that I'm working on. BTW anybody coming to Acen will get to see it (hopefully if I finish it in time -_-). I am also working this entire week, well until thursday, at IHS because National History Day State competition is on the 12th. Which means that I'm helping with organizing and sorting through the entry forms, and generally getting everything ready for this competition. On top of that I need to make some brownies for the people at work, go out drinking with some of the people from my site interpretation class (monday night), have a movie night with a friend (tuesday night), and pack to go see my sister in Washington state since I will be leaving directly from Acen to go to the airport.
It's strange because I've become almost zen-like in my acceptance of the fact that I am stressed. Its almost like an out of body experience, like I'm not the person its happening to. No wait........never mind zen-ness gone. Panic setting in again.

, you're now logged in! Below you'll find your test result. After, continue on to your homescreen to discover what we're about.
Exclamation point
You scored 61% Sociability and 58% Sophistication! |
Yes, you are fine around others. Fine. But you wish you could have just a *little* more alone time. Okay, well, a lot more alone time. In fact, you'd be happier if you didn't have to go out nearly as much. You get along very well with the period, who tries mightily to take up as much of the load as he can. But fools will not listen. You want to scream, "Cut it out, for the love of Safire!"
But, all of that notwithstanding, you do your duty. And, if sometimes you feel like a Chicago street hooker, you also remember that you really do have an important role to play. Your soul remains pure. Hold your head high! |

My test tracked 2 variables How you compared to other people your age and gender: | You scored higher than 99% on Sociability | | You scored higher than 99% on Sophistication |

Yep folks its official! I'm still alive!!! Well sort of. For everyone out there that actually pays attention to my actions I shall recount the last couple of months. My Christmas vacation was awesome. Very relaxing and I made sure not to think about history the entire time. Not that that actually worked or anything. But I did get back to Indy in January, and I started this semester.
I have two classes and both are sort of interesting. My Historic Methodologies class is ok. The professor is kind of a spaz and its a lot of work. It's in this class that we really have to start thinking about our thesis. Scary thought that, since it is only my second semester here at IUPUI. Anyway so I gave the idea a lot of thought and I think I'm going to be researching about Prostitution in Indianapolis from 1860ish to 1920ish. I'll probably have to narrow that topic down further but I think its a good start. Which btw did you know that in the 1900 US Census they put "prostitute" or "brothel worker" under profession. I just recently found that out, interesting huh? So that is a work in progress.
My other class is my Site Interpretation class, and its about how to interpret history at historic house museums and open-air museums. That class is my most interesting one. I mean we've talked about some really fascinating topics, like how to include the history of everyone that lived and worked in a house, from the servants on up. We're also scheduled to take a lot of field trips in that class, to go visit other historic sites around the area. In fact we had our first one today. We visited four different historic places; The Tippecanoe Battlefield, Historic Prophetstown, Fort Ouiatenon and the Delphi Canal museum. The last one (the canal museum) was truly amazing especially since it was run completely by volunteers.
As for everything else, I'm doing good. I will be coming up for Feast at the end of this month, and I will see some of you again in May for ACen. I'm not sure as of yet what I will be doing for the summer. I have the potential of getting an internship in Maine for the summer, so I'm not sure if I'll be in the area or not. If I am you will definitely be seeing more of me. Well I'll talk to you again later. I will try to be more consistent with updating this.

Hi all, I thought I would finally post on my LJ now that I actually have time to do so. This past semester has been crazy, hectic even. But now that I have survived it I can do it all again in 10 days. But until that time I don't have to think about history....a thought that I have cherished since the semester ended. I wanted to wish everyone a Happy Holidays, a bit belated but still sincerely meant. Just to let everyone who is in Detroit know, Sheila and myself will be in the area tomorrow and Saturday to visit people. Call my cell or Sheila's and we'll make sure to see you before we leave to go back to Midland. I am currently at home (home home that is) resting and relaxing between semesters...even though I tend to shy away from the thought that in a short amount of time I won't have a life again. Despite all of the craziness of the past semester though I was reaffirmed that this is the path I want to take...the only problem is I have a feeling it will take me longer than I expected. Oh well, at least I'll actually have a degree that can be used in the real world, unlike the last one, and the experience needed to make my dreams a reality. Well for now that's all, I'll talk to everyone later....Oh and Happy Holidays again.

My life right now: You could say busy, or even hectic. However my preferred word is insane. Because you see insane describes not only my schedule and classes, but also the state of my brain right now. So lets start at the beginning.....
October 2006: All of this month I was helping with an event for the Indiana Historical Society called the Indiana History Train. Basically the Society has three train cars that they put an exhibit on and it traveled around southern Indiana going to communities. Truthfully this is one of the best outreach programs I've run across in my experience with Public History. There were activities and a re-enactor for people to visit. It was a lot of fun. Unfortunately it left me with little to no free time in the entire month of October. Because, my friends, please keep in mind that I was still having to do homework and research for projects, and go to work at IHS during the rest of the week. To say that I was swamped is a very light way of putting it.
Anyway despite not only doing the history train I also went up to Michigan for GV Ren Faire, as well as helped out with a conference on British Studies here in Indy. While helping with the conference I found out about this really cool exchange program that IUPUI has with a school in England. Something I will be taking advantage of while here. How can I not? ^_^ It's England!
November 2006: Even though this month just started it feels like it should already by done. Let's see I went up to Michigan last weekend for Youmacon. The con itself had some issues (I have been scarred for life when it comes to masquerades!!!), but I got to see a lot of my friends. I missed everybody a lot so it was great to see people, and I had a blast hanging out with folks. The rest of this month has been me trying to catch up with all of the things I let lapse in the month of October, like the research that I need to do for some projects coming up next week. I'm starting to freak out, but I figure that's only normal at this point in time. Let me see, I don't think I have anything else to add. I figured it might be good to catch people up, at least a bit, with my life in the past two months. Talk to ya'll later.

Yes btw I never thought I could laugh so much. ^_^
List 12 of your original characters:
01. Karis 02. Emi Schaw 03. Kala Padma 04. Nah'ila Aline 05. Ro 06. Ashe Warrick 07. Zsa Targus 08. Samsara 09. Thea Lynn Rosschild 10. Shariel 11. Fandarel 12. Eris Fatouros
01) Who would make a better college professor, 6 or 11? What subjects would they teach? Well since Ashe is the master Mechanic she would probably make the better professor. But it sure would be funny if Fendy was; I think he might have a bit of a problem finding a subject to teach.
02) Do you think 2 is hot? How hot? LOL. Oh wow, okies well if I met Emi not knowing she's a girl, yeah I would think she makes a hot guy since she's been pulling off the guy look for years. And she's like an 8 on the sexy scale (when shes dressed as a guy rememeber)
03) 12 sends 8 on a mission. What is it, and does it succeed? Um no. Eris would probably send Sammy out for some information gathering about her father, but he would either out right refuse or make sure that it fails in some way. Gotta love my sarcastic man.
04) What is or would be 9's favorite book? Any book really on anything, but most especially if it was anything about languages or cultures.
05) Would it make more sense for 2 to swear fealty to 6, or the other way around? Neither their both to bull-headed and stubborn to follow directions from the other.
06) For some reason, 5 is looking for a roommate. Should s/he share a studio apartment with 9 or with 10? Both would drive Ro nuts. Shariel wouldn't be able to shut up, and she is truly an idiot anyway. Thea on the other hand would never talk and bury herself in a huge pile of books that would eventually take over the apartment.
07) 2, 7 and 12 have dinner together. Where do they go, and what do they discuss? They would go to any restaurant really as long as it had food. Emi would regale the table with stories of her misadventures with Dorian. Eris would talk about finding her father, and her life as a half vampire. Zsa on the other hand would listen politely until she determined that they were good people, and then calmly inform them that she would kill them both the next time she saw them, and to have a wonderful day.
08) 3 challenges 10 to a duel. What happens? Not something Kala would normally do, but if she did she would wipe the floor with Shariel, that is of course until Shariel got angry and transformed into her dragon form. Then it would be a toss-up to see who would survive.
09) If 1 stole 8's most precious possession, how would s/he get it back? That would never happen. Karis is too pure to do anything of the sort, in fact she is more of the type to make sure it gets returned to Sammy.
10) Suggest a title for a story in which 7 and 12 both attain what they most desire. Uhhhhhh...The Awful Truth
11) What kind of plot device would you use if you wanted 4 and 1 to work together? I would have to send Karis to look for a specialist in mechanical engineering and design, then let Nah'ila do all the work. They would soon be inseparable I think.
12) If 7 visited you for the weekend, how would you get along? Well if I didn't know that she was a psychotic killer, rather well. That is of course until Zsa killed me and then I would be cursing her name from Heaven.
13) If you could command 3 to perform any one task or service for you, what would it be? Write me a fabulous romance novel. At which point she would glare at me until I relented and sent her on a mission to get something.
14) Does anyone on your friends list write or draw 11? Well Kristie drew a couple of pictures of him, back when we actually gamed Aldis. Ahhh the memories.
15) If 2 had to choose sides between 4 and 5, which would it be? Well I guess it would depend on the battle, and if Nah'ila was actually acting as intelligent as she is. If so I would say Nah'ila, if not I would say Ro.
16) What might 10 shout while charging into battle? "I'm sorry to do this"
17) If you chose a song to represent 8, which song would you choose? Elegia For Piano, Hirano Yoshihisa; Ouran High School Host Club Soundtrack and Character Song 2
18) 1, 6, and 12 are having dim sum at a Chinese restaurant. There is only one scallion pancake left, and they all reach for it at the same time. Who gets to eat it? Ashe she's the fastest.
19) What might be a good pick-up line for 2 to use on 10? Dressed as a girl: “Hey baby I know you are the consort to the One, but I’m sure I can live up to the competition.” Dressed as a guy: *raise eyebrow* “Not my type.”
20) What would 5 most likely be arrested for? Licentious conduct with an officer
21) What is 6's secret? She's actually somewhat of a girly girl, but she doesn't get much chance to wear fancy clothes.
22) If 11 and 9 were racing to a destination, who would get there first? Fandarel since he's got magic powers and all that.
23) If you had to walk home through a bad neighborhood late at night, would you feel safer in the company of 7 or 8? Samsara, he's what 6’6”, of course I'm going to feel safer with him than the crazy one.
24) 1 and 9 reluctantly team up to save the world from the threat posed by 4's sinister secret organization. 11 volunteers to help them, but it is later discovered that he/she is actually a spy for 4. Meanwhile, 4 has kidnapped 12 in an attempt to force their surrender. Following the wise advice of 5, they seek out 3, who gives them what they need to complete their quest.
-What title would you give this fic? The Sinister organization that came to rule the world
-Name three people on your friends list who might read it. Kristie, Mike and K-chan
-Name one person who should write it. Kristie

So I followed Karen's example and took the Dante's Inferno test. And uh yeah.....it makes you think. Am I really a good person, or not? Will I really be punished for believing that people should be able to spend their money any way they see fit. It really makes me think and question, and laugh because yes some of the things are rather humorous.

On a lighter note I found some people here who are also anime geeks. It was a lot of fun to sit down and compare notes. I introduced an aforementioned anime geek to Ouran High School, and I have created another obsessed person. ^_^ She loved it, and we spent like four hours watching episodes. So Yay! There are other people down here that like anime too! The only downside is that they're all like 18 and such, which makes me feel extremely old. It was really funny though when the people at Swing Cats (the swing club I just recently joined)didn't believe that I was 23. I was almost tempted to whip out my license (complete with horribly bad picture) and say "Hah! See I am an old foagy". But then I realized it might be inappropriate with the two people in the club who are actually older (mid fifties) standing tight next to me. I'm not that dumb. Then again.....

So I'm actually extremely busy. I have classes Monday and Tuesday nights, and then I also intern at the Indiana Historical Society from Tuesday through Friday 9 until 3. I have at least three major projects for my two classes that are semester long projects. In my Historical Preservation class we're learning about architectural styles, and various ways of identifying what those styles are. Unfortunately while it is extremely fascinating reading there are a lot....and I mean a lot of terms. For this class one of my big projects is actually going to be researching and writing a submission to the National Register of Historic Places. I'm actually really excited to do this project, because it looks like its going to be a lot of fun. I've already picked my property that I'm going to nominate. The property is actually a Community center for Brookside Park here in Indy, and its just a really cool building. I'll have to post pictures when I get them.
My big project for my Intro to Public History course is actually a group project and I think I'm either going to be working on the one on a local Historic District called Fountain Square, or I'm going to be working on developing the Commemoration for the War of 1812. Both actually sound like a lot of fun. Even though there is a person that I can't stand in the class, that I may have to work with if I get the War of 1812 Commemoration. But I guess I'll just have to suck it up and deal with it, I mean when I get into the industry I'm sure I'll have to work with people I don't agree with all the time. But this man completely is driving me insane, I guess it doesn't help that he has to be in his late forties and he has completely different views on the world. Oh well I will deal.
Lets see I have the Indiana History Train coming up. I actually have to help with that starting the last weekend of this month and running through the last weekend in October. I'm taking a break to go to GV Ren, but other than that I will be there every single weekend. I'm looking forward to it because its about Indiana's involvement in the Civil War. Which yeah I know only a true history geek like myself would find interesting, but hey you get your kicks where you can.
So yeah other than all of that I'm doing pretty good. I went to the Swing Cats on Monday, which is actually a swing club on campus. I had a lot of fun, and I met some really cool people. So I at least have some people to hang out with now. We're actually going to the Irish Festival on Saturday. I think its going to be a lot of fun, I get to see step dancing ^_^ Oh and for everyone I haven't talked to in a while my cell phone number changed, I had to get a local one. So if you don't already have it drop me a line and I will give it to. So yeah that's my very busy life, guess I'll talk to all of you later.

Ahhhh my life....it is boring. In fact until classes start the only thing that I am doing is working at the Indiana Historical Society. And while I can't exactly say that's dull, I still haven't finished reading all of the stuff on the Civil War. The only really fun thing so far has been learning how to handle Civil War muskets, like how they were held and how the soldiers marched. Yay for playing with fake guns. But other than that, my life has fallen into a very dull routine. I get up go to work, stay at work until 5 or so, then I come home eat dinner and then putz until i go to bed. Let me tell you I miss desperately being the social butterfly. And before any of you say 'But Trig all you have to do is get off your but and make some new friends' I would like to the raise the point that I am actually quite shy. I know, I know quite a shock for those of you who know me well; but yes I am very shy. So while my sister gave me some good ideas I haven't yet gotten up the courage to actually go find new haunts and friends. Yeah I know I'm pathetic.
Anywho my life is surprisingly normal....well as normal as a Grad student in History's life could be. So I guess I'll talk to ya'll later and all that.

So here is an update on my life right now. I moved down to Indianapolis on the 11th and the 12th. Which by the way is a four and a half hour drive from Grand Rapids, where I was living before. So, with the help of my parents and my wonderful roomie Karen, I was able to get everything I own in the world down here in two days. Woooo...let me tell you stress does not even begin to describe how I was feeling. So I moved into my lovely apartment (no really I love this place) and I had everything unpacked by monday night.
Then on monday and tuesday I actually had a workshop for all of the Public History Interns at IUPUI, so I went to that. I had a lot of fun, especially on tuesday when we went to Conner Prairie, which is a living History museum near here. And I met a new friend; Yay *does a happy dance*. So now I'm not completely alone here.
Anyway I then started my internship at the Indiana Historical Society yesterday. I'm working in the Education Department, more specifically I'm helping out with Public Programs. I think its going to be a lot of fun, but right now I'm kind of off to a slow start. I'm reading material about the Civil War so I can be prepared for this exhibit that they do in the fall. What they do is the put an exhibit on a train, and then take the train to different cities in Indiana. So I will be helping with that; I think its going to be a lot of fun, my only problem is that I'm reading for about 8 hours straight and this is the second day of that.
Anyway my classes actually start on the 23rd, and I have my Graduate orientation on the 22nd so I'm looking forward to that since I will get to meet more people here that have similar interests as I do. Well I should probably stop typing since this is most likely my longest entry to date. Hope everyone is doing well. I'll see everyone sometime soon. ^_^

Well tomorrow's the big moving day. Well one of them. I have until sunday to get everything into the apartment, mostly because I have my orientation for public history major interns on Monday and Tuesday of next week. We'll see how that goes. Anyway tomorrow I bring my first load of stuff down to Indy and drop it off in my new place. I'm now really starting to get nervous about moving down there, I kinda expected this would happen. You see things like this don't actually hit me until they are just about to happen. then they hit me like a semi going 70mph. So yes I'm nervous and now I need to go to bed; otherwise I will not be conscious to drive tomorrow at 8:00am. Ugh.

But for anyone who wants to talk to me please do. I would love to hear from everyone. Oh and don't worry I will stay in contact. 1. Grab the nearest book. 2. Open the book to page 123. 3. Find the fourth sentence. 4. Post the text of the next five sentences on your LJ along with these instructions. 5. And here is my contribution:
Axis' face flinched with the memory. "He said that my mother died giving birth to me, died cursing me for taking her life. I believed him. I had no choice, none to tell me differently." Appalled, Rivkah reached out and seized Axis' hand.

I like Kids really I do.....At least that's what I've been repeating to myself all day while dealing with the kids from hell. I mean really, I do like kids. Well at least when i can hand them back to mom and dad when they start to piss me off. But when you are given the task of teaching these "little angels" for a summer camp at a museum that you will be leaving in approximately eleven days; your patience for their backtalk tends to shorten. So yes I am very tired, hot and sore all because of the rugrats in the Young Wizards camp. Ugh.....*flops onto couch* okies Trig relax now....
